When it comes to checking in with AirAsia, there are generally three methods available:
1. At the Counter
2. Self Check-In at a Kiosk (Note: If you have luggage, you’ll still need to visit the counter)
3. Online Check-In
However, at Incheon Airport, option 2 (Self Check-In at a Kiosk) is often unavailable, so you’ll need to either wait in line at the counter or complete an online check-in.
Important: Even if you complete an online self check-in, you must still print a paper ticket!
Safe and Quick Self Check-In Process
1. Go to the AirAsia Website:
Access your booking details on the AirAsia website.
2. Select Self Check-In:
Choose “Self Check-In” from your upcoming bookings.
3. Complete Online Check-In:
Follow the prompts to complete your online check-in. At this stage, your electronic ticket will be issued.
4. Proceed to the AirAsia Counter:
Head to the physical AirAsia counter at the airport.
5. Visit the 'Service Counter':
Among the check-in counters, go to the 'Service Counter.'
6. Get Your Paper Ticket:
Obtain your printed paper ticket.
By following this process, you can skip the long check-in lines and quickly get your paper ticket. In short, while online check-in is available, you must have a physical ticket. Completing the self check-in online allows you to join a shorter line at the airport.
This method is not widely known, as it's not clearly stated at the counter or elsewhere, but it helps you complete your check-in process quickly.
**Note: You cannot board the plane with just an electronic ticket, so be sure to visit the counter to get your paper ticket.
I’m sharing this information based on my personal experience and advice from the staff, as I was also confused about whether online self check-in was possible and if a paper ticket was needed. This may only apply to the Incheon International Airport and other airport may follow other rules. However, I do think it is safe to have paper tickets when you are using AirAsia based on my experiences.
